Harry Kalas Memorial Statue

About Dear Harry, Inc.
The day after Harry Kalas died, Philadelphia Phillies fan, Antonio Jose started a petition on Facebook seeking support for a statue to be erected in Kalas' honor and memory. One of the nearly 20,000 Facebook members that have signed the petition was Philadelphia native and acclaimed sculptor, Lawrence Nowlan.
Inspired by the groundswell of support, Nowlan gathered a small group of friends to strategize a way to turn this dream into a reality. The non-profit group, Dear Harry, Inc. was formed as the organizational entity whose current singular mission is to promote, fund and execute a memorial to Harry Kalas.

Donation Accounting
Based upon similar installations, Dear Harry, Inc. has prepared a realistic budget and timeline but we would love to get this project complete while the memory of Harry is still fresh in the collective consciousness of the fans and the city. As donations begin to add up we will be posting a progress indicator on the site and, as a non-profit, we are utilizing the safe and secure PayPal donation system.

Now we're counting on the fans of Harry Kalas to step up to the plate and give. Should we exceed our goal it is possible that a figure of Richie Ashburn can be added to the monument– the Kalas model has been designed with that in mind!

We are very hopeful that the signatures on the petition, the encouraging support of our mission and the widespread love of Harry Kalas will equate to contributions that will help us deliver an amazing tribute to an amazing human being!

Timeline
The procedures that are necessary to include while creating a timeline for a project like this include:
• Creating scale model (111009)
• Molding that model and casting it in plaster (112309)
• Enlarging the model to full size
• Finishing the full size sculpture in clay
• Creating a rubber mold of the full size monument
• Bronze casting of the monument
• Finishing and patina
• Custom granite base
• Shipping and installation.

The best case scenario is that we were able to start almost immediately and we could have an unveiling toward the end of next season. We may be able to plan it so that we unveil the piece at the home opener of the 2011 season.

Budget
The total estimated cost for this piece at 7’ is $80,000.00
The good news is that the bulk of the total cost comes at the tail end of the project with
the molding, casting and finishing.
1. To get the project underway we will need around $15,000.00
2. From there we will need an installment of +/- $30,000
3. And a final installment to close the project $35,000
